The Weight We Carry – Finding Strength in God’s Promises

The Weight We Carry is a gritty and authentic reflection on the burdens we all carry, reminding us of God’s sustaining love and promises in Matthew 11:28, 1 Peter 5:7, and Isaiah 46:4.

It’s not the kind of weight you can tally on a scale.
It isn’t bags of flour or cords of wood.
It’s not the things the body strains against,
it’s the burdens that live deep in the chest,
the thoughts that whisper at night,
the fears that follow us into the day.

We carry it in silence.
Bills stacked high.
Loved ones leaning heavy.
Promises we’ve made that stretch further
than our strength was ever meant to go.

We carry it in our bones,
a stiffness that no medicine can ease.
We carry it in our voices,
laughing when the world expects us to,
though the echo feels hollow.
We carry it in our hands,
hands that pour coffee,
tie shoelaces,
write checks,
fold laundry,
and still tremble when no one is looking.

The weight we carry is invisible,
yet it marks us more deeply than rope burn or scar.
It digs trenches in the heart.
It bends our shoulders down toward the ground.
And still,
we get up.
We show up.
We love,
we serve,
we walk another mile on tired feet.

Strength isn’t always muscle.
Strength is choosing gentleness
when the world would understand bitterness.
Strength is showing mercy
when all you’ve known is judgment.
Strength is carrying the weight
without letting it harden your soul.

And in those quiet hours,
when the weight feels unbearable,
there is One who whispers:
“Come to Me, all of you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.”

There is One who says:
“Casting all your care on Him, because He cares about you.”

There is One who promises:
“I will be the same until your old age, and I will bear you up when you turn gray.
I have made you, and I will carry you; I will bear and save you.”

The weight we carry is real.
But so is the love that holds us steady.
So is the faith that carries us when our legs give out.
So is the God who says,
you don’t walk this road alone.
