Inspired by Song of Solomon 2:16 – 3:11, this reflection reveals the believer’s union with Christ—He in us and we in Him—and the call to rise from comfort and proclaim His Word to the world.
Scene: A quiet park bench at dusk
Jordan leaned back, watching the lamps flicker on. “You know what I keep hearing people say? ‘Faith is private. Just keep it in your heart and that’s enough.’ Honestly, that sounds like a nice excuse to stay comfortable.”
Naomi smiled gently. “That’s not the picture Scripture gives. It says, ‘I am my Beloved’s, and my Beloved is mine.’ That’s union with Christ. Because of His death on the cross, He lives in us here on earth, and in Heaven, our lives are hidden in Him. It’s the deepest belonging we could ever know.”
Jordan nodded slowly. “So, it’s like a secure relationship. But if that’s true, isn’t it enough just to rest in that security?”
Naomi shook her head. “Not at all. The passage shows someone who rises in the night to search for the One they love. That’s action. Belonging to Christ isn’t permission to sit back; it’s a call to get up, move, and share His Word. We can’t just whisper about Him in private—we’re meant to fling the Word into the world like seed.”
Jordan leaned forward. “So real faith pushes us outward. Not just to enjoy the comfort, but to actually serve.”
Naomi nodded. “Exactly. And there’s persistence in that picture. The one who sought the Beloved didn’t stop until He was found. That’s how we’re meant to live—resting in Christ, yes, but also restless in service until His truth is made known.”
The evening air grew cooler, and for a moment they sat in silence.
Jordan broke it. “And that last part about the King’s procession—what does that mean?”
Naomi looked out at the horizon. “It’s a glimpse of what’s coming. The same Christ who dwells in us now will one day return in glory, like a King in full splendor. What begins in private devotion will end in public triumph. The world will see the One who has always reigned.”
Jordan exhaled. “So, faith isn’t just comfort—it’s commitment. He’s in us, we’re in Him, and until He comes back, we’re supposed to get moving and proclaim Him.”
Naomi smiled. “That’s it. Our union with Him is the anchor, but our service for Him is the assignment.”
Inspired by Song of Solomon 2:16 – 3:11, we see that Christ’s love gives us security, but it also stirs us to action—He is in us, we are in Him, and His Word must be flung into the world through words and service until the King returns in glory.

My love is mine and I am his;
he feeds among the lilies.
17 Before the day breaks
and the shadows flee,
turn to me, my love, and be like a gazelle
or a young stag on the divided mountains.
3 In my bed at night[a]
I sought the one I love;
I sought him, but did not find him.[b]
2 I will arise now and go about the city,
through the streets and the plazas.
I will seek the one I love.
I sought him, but did not find him.
3 The guards who go about the city found me.
I asked them, “Have you seen the one I love?”
4 I had just passed them
when I found the one I love.
I held on to him and would not let him go
until I brought him to my mother’s house—
to the chamber of the one who conceived me.
5 Young women of Jerusalem, I charge you
by the gazelles and the wild does of the field:
do not stir up or awaken love
until the appropriate time.[c]
6 N What is this coming up from the wilderness
like columns of smoke,
scented with myrrh and frankincense
from every fragrant powder of the merchant?
7 It is Solomon’s royal litter[d]
surrounded by 60 warriors
from the mighty of Israel.
8 All of them are skilled with swords
and trained in warfare.
Each has his sword at his side
to guard against the terror of the night.
9 King Solomon made a sedan chair[e] for himself
with wood from Lebanon.
10 He made its posts of silver,
its back[f] of gold,
and its seat of purple.
Its interior is inlaid with love[g]
by the young women of Jerusalem.
11 Come out, young women of Zion,
and gaze at King Solomon,
wearing the crown his mother placed on him
the day of his wedding—
the day of his heart’s rejoicing.
