Son: Dad, everyone talks about success — money, power, recognition. But it feels like chasing shadows. What does God say about the kind of life that actually matters?
Dad: God says the man who fears Him and delights in His Word is the one who is truly blessed. That’s where it starts. Reverence for the Lord. Not fear as in terror, but holy respect that shapes every decision.
Son: So blessing isn’t about wealth or applause?
Dad: No. Those things can come, but they fade. True blessing runs deeper. God can bring increase, but our faith should never be in material gain. A righteous man leaves a legacy that outlives him. His children are strengthened by his faith. His home is filled with light, even in the darkest times, because his trust is in the Lord.
Son: But life isn’t easy. What holds a man steady when trouble comes?
Dad: Faith, hope, and love. Faith anchors him when everything shakes. Hope keeps his eyes fixed on God’s promises, not his circumstances. And love — the kind that gives, forgives, and serves — that sustains him. That love is what reflects Christ to the world.
Son: And how does that show up in everyday life?
Dad: He shows grace and compassion. He’s generous with what he has, whether little or much. He deals honestly, keeps his word, and doesn’t let fear drive him. His heart is steady because he trusts the Lord, not man.
Son: But what about the wicked? They seem to prosper.
Dad: For a time. But their desires vanish. Their power crumbles. They gnash their teeth when they see the peace of the righteous, but their ways come to nothing. Meanwhile, the righteous stand firm, because their life is built on God’s promises, not man’s applause.
Son: So real blessing is a life of endurance — shaped by faith, anchored in hope, sustained by love — and lived out in generosity, mercy, and trust in God.
Dad: Exactly. That’s the life God calls “blessed.” Not flashy, not loud — but steady, fruitful, unshakable. And when it’s over, there’s only one voice that counts: “Well done, good and faithful servant.”
The account of Psalm 112 reminds us that God may bring increase, but true blessing is found in fearing Him, trusting His Word, and enduring with faith, hope, and love.

The Traits of the Righteous
1 Hallelujah![a]
Happy is the man who fears the Lord,
taking great delight in His commands.
2 His descendants will be powerful in the land;
the generation of the upright will be blessed.
3 Wealth and riches are in his house,
and his righteousness endures forever.
4 Light shines in the darkness for the upright.
He is gracious, compassionate, and righteous.
5 Good will come to a man who lends generously
and conducts his business fairly.
6 He will never be shaken.
The righteous man will be remembered forever.
7 He will not fear bad news;
his heart is confident, trusting in the Lord.
8 His heart is assured; he will not fear.
In the end he will look in triumph on his foes.
9 He distributes freely to the poor;
his righteousness endures forever.
His horn will be exalted in honor.
10 The wicked man will see it and be angry;
he will gnash his teeth in despair.
The desire of the wicked man will come to nothing.
