The man in my mirror is part of my testimony. Before we can be whole, we must be broken. And this site is born from the valleys that we all go through.
I come from a life with walls that shaped me,
the narrow doorways, the hardened hearts, the stiffened necks,
where fear posed as truth,
and silence meant loyalty.
Inside, the air was filled with names and madness
designed carefully to carve the world into division and mistrust;
hate sat at the table in my home, pious as it was,
dressed in its Sunday best.
Yet the road curved, slowly, with a sacredness,
lined with books and questions, wonder but no fear,
And beautiful faces my old life never taught me to love or recognize.
I traded sides, from human to spiritual,
more than that, though:
I swapped swords for seeds,
Planting God’s Word and agape love with kindness and compassion
where suspicion once took root,
And I learned that grace and mercy bloom louder and larger than fear and hatred.
Now I live in a house full of Light, a sanctuary if you will,
voices on the tables, music in the ears,
peace on the walls,
a door forever open
to the world I once didn’t know.
From a craven house of racism
to a house of unconditional love.
From a party hijacked by hate and fear,
to a people of inclusion, imperfect as we are. To God, who teaches me daily.
And I will never go back,
because love,
real love,
doesn’t whisper.
It sings.
